Using the WordPress Block Editor

The WordPress Block Editor (also known as Gutenberg) provides a modern way to create content on your website. Everything is built with blocks – from paragraphs and images to complex layouts.

Basic Block Editor Concepts

  • Blocks: Content elements that you add to your page or post
  • Block Toolbar: Appears when you select a block, with options specific to that block
  • Block Settings Sidebar: Shows additional settings for the selected block
  • Block Pattern: Pre-designed block layouts you can insert

Adding Blocks

To add a new block:

  1. Click the “+” button in the top left corner or at the beginning of a new line
  2. Browse the block categories or search for a specific block
  3. Click on the block you want to add

Common Blocks

  • Paragraph: Basic text content
  • Heading: Section titles (H2, H3, etc.)
  • Image: Single image with optional caption
  • Gallery: Multiple images in a grid layout
  • List: Bulleted or numbered lists
  • Quote: Quoted text with citation
  • Buttons: Call-to-action buttons
  • Columns: Multi-column layouts
  • Group: Container for grouping blocks together

Editing Blocks

To edit a block:

  • Click on the block to select it
  • Use the toolbar above the block for quick formatting
  • Check the settings sidebar (on the right) for additional options
  • To remove a block, select it and press Delete or use the three-dot menu to remove it
